PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate a characteristic cerebellar hemisphere enhancement pattern on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that could aid in early and specific diagnosis of intracranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pretreatment MR images of 57 patients with intracranial DAVFs between January 1, 2017, and February 28, 2023, were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 128 patients with confirmed alternative cerebellar lesions during the same period were included as a control group. All patients underwent enhanced MRI with a 3.0T scanner. The presence or absence of parallel enhanced linear striations on the surface of the cerebellar lesions was documented. Statistically significant differences were determined by the Fisher exact test. RESULTS: Cerebellar lesions were identified in 4 intracranial DAVF patients (7.0%). All 4 patients were male, with an average age of 64 years (range: 58-76 years). The pretreatment MR images of all 4 DAVF patients with cerebellar lesions demonstrated the characteristic tigroid enhancement pattern. Tortuous flow voids were present in the MR images of 3 of the 4 patients. Tigroid enhancement pattern was not observed in the remaining 53 intracranial DAVF patients and all control patients. The differences in the incidence of the pattern were significant (p=0.01). CONCLUSION: A characteristic tigroid enhancement pattern of the cerebellar hemisphere on MRI may aid in the early and specific diagnosis of intracranial DAVFs, allowing timely treatment and improving outcomes. CLINICAL IMPACT: The identification of a characteristic tigroid enhancement pattern on MRI for cerebellar hemisphere lesions holds significant promise for clinical practice. This pattern serves as a distinctive marker aiding in the early and specific diagnosis of intracranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs). Clinicians can now utilize this innovative finding to expedite diagnostic workflows, enabling timely intervention and management strategies. The incorporation of this novel imaging feature enhances diagnostic accuracy, potentially reducing misdiagnosis rates and preventing delays in treatment initiation. Ultimately, this advancement may lead to improved patient outcomes and quality of care in neurosurgical and neuroradiological practice.

Demand for anal cancer screening is expected to rise following the recent publication of the ANCHOR trial, which showed that treatment of HSIL significantly reduces the rate of progression to anal cancer. While screening for HPV-associated squamous lesions in the cervix is well-established and effective, this is less true for other sites in the lower anogenital tract. Current anal cancer screening and prevention rely on high-resolution anoscopy (HRA) with biopsies. This procedure has a steep learning curve for providers and may cause patient discomfort. Scattering-based light-sheet microscopy (sLSM) is a novel imaging modality with the potential to mitigate these challenges through real-time, microscopic visualization of disease-susceptible tissue. Here, we report a proof-of-principle study that establishes feasibility of dysplasia detection using an sLSM device. We imaged 110 anal biopsy specimens collected prospectively at our institution's dysplasia clinic (including 30 nondysplastic, 40 LSIL and 40 HSIL specimens) and found that these optical images are highly interpretable and accurately recapitulate histopathologic features traditionally used for the diagnosis of HPV-associated squamous dysplasia. A reader study to assess diagnostic accuracy suggests that sLSM images are noninferior to H&E for the detection of anal dysplasia (sLSM accuracy = 0.87, H&E accuracy = 0.80; p = 0.066). Given these results, we believe that sLSM technology holds great potential to enhance the efficacy of anal cancer screening by allowing accurate sampling of diagnostic tissue at the time of anoscopy. While the current imaging study was performed on ex vivo biopsy specimens, we are currently developing a handheld device for in vivo imaging that will provide immediate microscopic guidance to HRA providers.

BACKGROUND: Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin and a P2Y12 inhibitor is a standard therapy in patients with ischemic vascular diseases (IVD) including coronary artery, cerebrovascular and peripheral arterial diseases, although the optimal duration of this treatment is still debated. Previous meta-analyses reported conflicting results about the effects of long-term and short-term as well as non-DAPT use in various clinical settings. Herein, we conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of different durations of DAPT. METHODS: We reviewed relevant articles and references from database, which were published prior to April 2023. Data from prospective studies were processed using RevMan5.0 software, provided by Cochrane Collaboration and transformed using relevant formulas. The inclusion criteria involved randomization to long-term versus short-term or no DAPT; the endpoints included at least one of total or cardiovascular (CV) mortalities, IVD recurrence, and bleeding. RESULTS: A total of 34 randomized studies involving 141 455 patients were finally included. In comparison with no or short-term DAPT, long-term DAPT reduced MI and stroke, but did not reduce the total and CV mortalities. Meanwhile, bleeding events were increased, even though intracranial and fatal bleedings were not affected. Besides, the reduction of MI and stroke recurrence showed no statistical significance between long-term and short-term DAPT groups. CONCLUSION: Long-term DAPT may not reduce the mortality of IVD besides increasing bleeding events, although reduced the incidences of MI and stroke early recurrence to a certain extent and did not increase the risk of fatal intracranial bleeding.

RESUMO

An organocatalytic enantioselective alkylation of α,α-disubstituted aldehydes with 3-bromooxindoles is reported. Enantioenriched oxindoles with vicinal quaternary stereocenters are accessed by an asymmetric conjugate addition process of branched aldehydes with o-azaxylylene intermediates (indol-2-ones). Key to the success of highly diastereo- and enantioselective transformations is the combined use of a triphenylsilyl-protected ß-amino alcohol catalyst derived from the spiropyrrolidine scaffold and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid. This study also presents a rare example of aldehyde alkylation with the formation of consecutive quaternary stereocenters.

BACKGROUND: Monkeypox is an emerging infectious disease with confirmed cases and deaths in several parts of the world. In light of this crisis, this study aims to analyze the global knowledge pattern of monkeypox-related patents and explore current trends and future technical directions in the medical development of monkeypox to inform research and policy. METHODS: A comprehensive study of 1,791 monkeypox-related patents worldwide was conducted using the Derwent patent database by descriptive statistics, social network method and linear regression analysis. RESULTS: Since the 21st century, the number of monkeypox-related patents has increased rapidly, accompanied by increases in collaboration between commercial and academic patentees. Enterprises contributed the most in patent quantity, whereas the initial milestone patent was filed by academia. The core developments of technology related to the monkeypox include biological and chemical medicine. The innovations of vaccines and virus testing lack sufficient patent support in portfolios. CONCLUSIONS: Monkeypox-related therapeutic innovation is geographically limited with strong international intellectual property right barriers though it has increased rapidly in recent years. The transparent licensing of patent knowledge is driven by the merger and acquisition model, and the venture capital, intellectual property and contract research organization model. Currently, the patent thicket phenomenon in the monkeypox field may slow the progress of efforts to combat monkeypox. Enterprises should pay more attention to the sharing of technical knowledge, make full use of drug repurposing strategies, and promote innovation of monkeypox-related technology in hotspots of antivirals (such as tecovirimat, cidofovir, brincidofovir), vaccines (JYNNEOS, ACAM2000), herbal medicine and gene therapy.

OBJECTIVES: The Talos stent-graft has extended length to improve aortic remodeling, and distal porous design to decrease the rate of spinal cord ischemia. This study retrospectively analyzed its mid-term outcomes for uncomplicated type B aortic dissection in a multicenter study. METHODS: The primary safety endpoint was 30-day major adverse events, including all-cause mortality, dissection-related mortality, conversion to open surgery, and device-related adverse events. The primary efficacy endpoint was treatment success at 12 months post-operation, defined as no technical failure or secondary dissection-related reintervention. The survival status of the patients was visualized using the Kaplan-Meier curve. Aortic growth was assessed at four levels, and spinal cord ischemia was evaluated at 12 months. RESULTS: 113 patients participated with a mean age of 54.4 (11.1) years and 71.7% (81/113) were male. The 30-day mortality was 0.9% (1/113), no conversions to open surgery or device-related adverse events were recorded. The 12-month treatment success rate was 99.1% (112/113), with no dissection-related reinterventions. There was no spinal cord or visceral ischemia at 12 months. At a median of 34 months follow-up, 9 further deaths were recorded and the 3-year survival rate was 91.7%. The percentage of aortic growth was 1.8% (2/111) at the tracheal bifurcation, 3.6% (4/111) below the left atrium, 6.0% (5/83) above the celiac artery, and 12.1% (9/74) below the lower renal artery. The total thrombosis rate of the false lumen at the stented segment was 80.5% (91/113). CONCLUSIONS: The results showed satisfactory results of Talos stent-graft in terms of safety and efficacy. More data are needed to confirm the long-term performance.

Background: The effect of drug-drug interaction between tacrolimus and caspofungin on the pharmacokinetics of tacrolimus in different CYP3A5 genotypes has not been reported in previous studies. Objectives: To investigate the effect of caspofungin on the blood concentration and dose of tacrolimus under different CYP3A5 genotypes. Design: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in The First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University and Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital from January 2015 to December 2022. All kidney transplant patients were divided into the combination or non-combination group based on whether tacrolimus was combined with caspofungin or not. Patients were subdivided into CYP3A5 expressers (CYP3A5*1/*1 or CYP3A5*1/*3) and CYP3A5 non-expressers (CYP3A5*3/*3). Methods: Data from the combination and the non-combination groups were matched with propensity scores to reduce confounding by SPSS 22.0. A total of 200 kidney transplant patients receiving tacrolimus combined with caspofungin or not were enrolled in this study. Statistical analysis was conducted on the dose-corrected trough concentrations (C0/D) and dose requirements (D) of tacrolimus using independent sample two-sided t-test and nonparametric tests to investigate the impact on patients with different. Results: In this study, the C0/D values of tacrolimus were not significantly different between the combination and non-combination groups (p = 0.054). For CYP3A5 expressers, there was no significant difference in tacrolimus C0/D or D values between the combination and non-combination groups (p = 0.359; p = 0.851). In CYP3A5 nonexpressers, the C0/D values of tacrolimus were significantly lower in the combination than in the non-combination groups (p = 0.039), and the required daily dose of tacrolimus was increased by 11.11% in the combination group. Conclusion: Co-administration of caspofungin reduced tacrolimus blood levels and elevated the required daily dose of tacrolimus. In CYP3A5 non-expressers, co-administration of caspofungin had a significant effect on tacrolimus C0/D values. An approximate 10% increase in the weight-adjusted daily dose of tacrolimus in CYP3A5 non-expressers is recommended to ensure the safety of tacrolimus administration.


Differential drug interactions of caspofungin on tacrolimus in Chinese kidney transplant patients with different CYP3A5 genotypes Why was the study done? Currently, there have been studies reporting the effect of caspofungin on tacrolimus blood concentrations, but the conclusions are conflicting, and no study has focused on the effect of CYP3A5 genotypes on the drug-drug interaction. We explored a number of research questions: 1. Does caspofungin have an effect on the pharmacokinetics of the immunosuppressant tacrolimus? 2. How does CYP3A5*3, which affects tacrolimus metabolism significantly, affect tacrolimus blood concentration levels? 3. How should the dose of tacrolimus be adjusted when combined with caspofungin? What did the researchers do? By reviewing literature, we understood the problems related with the kidney transplant patients better, which led to the development of strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. The patients (from January 2015 to December 2022) were categorized into combination and non-combination groups according to whether they were co-administered with caspofungin or not. The results of the study were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. What did the researchers find? The study finally included 200 patients. We found no statistically significant differences in the dose-corrected trough concentrations (C0/D) and dose requirements (D) of tacrolimus between the combination and non-combination groups. However, in patients with CYPA5*3/*3 genotype, tacrolimus C0/D values were significantly lower in the combination group than in the non-combination group, and the required daily tacrolimus dose was increased. What do the findings mean? This study has found that co-administration of caspofungin in patients with CYP3A5*3/*3 genotype resulted in a significant decrease in the C0/D value of tacrolimus, therefore, an appropriate increase in the daily dose of tacrolimus is recommended. The implication is that it is important and necessary to monitor the concentrations of tacrolimus and the CYP3A5 genotypes, and adjust the dose when combined or discontinuing with caspofungin in kidney transplant patients.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) represent a well-known material family with diverse structural phases and rich electronic properties; they are thus an ideal platform for studying the emergence and exotic phenomenon of superconductivity (SC). Herein, we propose the existence of tetragonal TMDCs with a distorted Lieb (dLieb) lattice structure and the stabilized transition metal disulfides (MS2), including dLieb-ZrS2, dLieb-NbS2, dLieb-MnS2, dLieb-FeS2, dLieb-ReS2, and dLieb-OsS2. Except for semiconducting dLieb-ZrS2 and magnetic dLieb-MnS2, the rest of metallic dLieb-MS2 was found to exhibit intrinsic SC with the transition temperature (TC) ranging from ∼5.4 to ∼13.0 K. The TC of dLieb-ReS2 and dLieb-OsS2 exceeded 10 K and was higher than that of the intrinsic SC in the known metallic TMDCs, which is attributed to the significant phonon-softening enhanced electron-phonon coupling strength. Different from the Ising spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect in existing non-centrosymmetric TMDCs, the non-magnetic dLieb-MS2 monolayers exhibit the Dresselhaus SOC effect, which is featured by in-plane spin orientations and will give rise to the topological SC under proper conditions. In addition to enriching the structural phases of TMDCs, our work predicts a series of SC candidates with high intrinsic TC and topological non-triviality used for fault-tolerant quantum computation.

Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a promising imaging technique that can visualize the distribution of chromophores within biological tissue. However, the accuracy of PAT imaging is compromised by light fluence (LF), which hinders the quantification of light absorbers. Currently, model-based iterative methods are used for LF correction, but they require extensive computational resources due to repeated LF estimation based on differential light transport models. To improve LF correction efficiency, we propose to use Fourier neural operator (FNO), a neural network specially designed for estimating partial differential equations, to learn the forward projection of light transport in PAT. Trained using paired finite-element-based LF simulation data, our FNO model replaces the traditional computational heavy LF estimator during iterative correction, such that the correction procedure is considerably accelerated. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves comparable LF correction quality to traditional iterative methods while reducing the correction time by over 30 times.

BACKGROUND: Suboptimal health status is a global public health concern of worldwide academic interest, which is an intermediate health status between health and illness. The purpose of the survey is to investigate the relationship between anxiety statuses and suboptimal health status and to identify the central symptoms and bridge symptoms. METHODS: This study recruited 26,010 participants aged <60 from a cross-sectional study in China in 2022. General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and suboptimal health status short form (SHSQ-9) were used to quantify the levels of anxiety and suboptimal health symptoms, respectively. The network analysis method by the R program was used to judge the central and bridge symptoms. The Network Comparison Test (NCT) was used to investigate the network differences by gender, place of residence, and age in the population. RESULTS: In this survey, the prevalence of anxiety symptoms, SHS, and comorbidities was 50.7 %, 54.8 %, and 38.5 %, respectively. "Decreased responsiveness", "Shortness of breath", "Uncontrollable worry" were the nodes with the highest expected influence. "Irritable", "Exhausted" were the two symptom nodes with the highest expected bridge influence in the network. There were significant differences in network structure among different subgroup networks. LIMITATIONS: Unable to study the causal relationship and dynamic changes among variables. Anxiety and sub-health were self-rated and may be limited by memory bias. CONCLUSIONS: Interventions targeting central symptoms and bridge nodes may be expected to improve suboptimal health status and anxiety in Chinese residents. Researchers can build symptom networks for different populations to capture symptom relationships.

Neutrophils, the most abundant and efficient defenders against pathogens, exert opposing functions across cancer types. However, given their short half-life, it remains challenging to explore how neutrophils adopt specific fates in cancer. Here, we generated and integrated single-cell neutrophil transcriptomes from 17 cancer types (225 samples from 143 patients). Neutrophils exhibited extraordinary complexity, with 10 distinct states including inflammation, angiogenesis, and antigen presentation. Notably, the antigen-presenting program was associated with favorable survival in most cancers and could be evoked by leucine metabolism and subsequent histone H3K27ac modification. These neutrophils could further invoke both (neo)antigen-specific and antigen-independent T cell responses. Neutrophil delivery or a leucine diet fine-tuned the immune balance to enhance anti-PD-1 therapy in various murine cancer models. In summary, these data not only indicate the neutrophil divergence across cancers but also suggest therapeutic opportunities such as antigen-presenting neutrophil delivery.

The involvement of exogenous alanine was observed to inhibit the generation of 2-furfural during the thermal degradation of the Amadori rearrangement product (ARP). To clarify the reason for the reduced yield of 2-furfural triggered by exogenous alanine, the evolution of the precursors of 2-furfural formed in the ARP model and ARP-alanine model was investigated, and a model including ARP and 15N-labeled alanine was used to differentiate the role of endogenous and exogenous alanine in the degradation of ARP. It was found that the condensation between ARP and 3-deoxyxylosone could occur during thermal treatment. Nevertheless, the interaction of ARP with 3-deoxyxylosone exhibited an accelerated pace in the presence of exogenous alanine. In this way, exogenous alanine blocked the recovery of endogenous alanine while simultaneously enhancing the consumption of ARP and 3-deoxyxylosone during the Maillard reaction. Hence, the yield of 2-furfural was diminished with the interference of exogenous alanine. Furthermore, the promotion of the reaction between ARP and deoxyxylosone induced by exogenous alanine blocked their retro-aldolization reaction to short-chain α-dicarbonyls (α-DCs) and consequently resulted in a lack of pyrazine formation during the ARP degradation. The present study provided a feasible method for the controlled formation of 2-furfural during the thermal treatment of ARP derived from alanine.

Plant health states may influence the distribution of rhizosphere microorganisms, which regulate plant growth and development. In this study, the response of rhizosphere bacteria and fungi of healthy and diseased plants compared to bulk microbes was analyzed using high-throughput sequencing. Plant adaptation strategies of plants under potato virus Y (PVY) infection have been studied from a microbial perspective. The diversity and community structure of bacteria and fungi varied between bulk and rhizosphere soils, but not between healthy and diseased rhizosphere soils. A LEfSe analysis revealed the significant differences between different treatments on bacterial and fungal community compositions and identified Roseiflexaceae, Sphingomonas, and Sphingobium as the bacterial biomarkers of bulk (BCK), healthy rhizosphere (BHS), and diseased rhizosphere (BIS) soils, respectively; Rhodotorula and Ascomycota_unidentified_1_1 were identified as the fungal biomarkers of bulk (FCK) and healthy rhizosphere (FHS) soils. Bacterial networks were found to be more complex and compact than fungal networks and revealed the roles of biomarkers as network keystone taxa. PVY infection further increased the connectedness among microbial taxa to improve rhizosphere microbial community stability and resistance to environmental stress. Additionally, water content (WC) played an apparent influence on bacterial community structure and diversity, and pH showed significant effects on fungal community diversity. WC and pH greatly affected the biomarkers of bacterial rhizosphere communities, whereas the biomarkers of bulk bacterial communities were significantly affected by soil nutrients, especially for Sphingobium. Overall, the rhizosphere microbial community enrichment processes were different between healthy and diseased plants by changing the community compositions and identifying different biomarkers. These findings provide insight into the assemblage of rhizosphere microbial communities and soil physicochemical properties, which contributes to a deeper understanding of the establishment of an artificial core root microbiota to facilitate plant growth and bolstering resistance mechanisms. Dihydromyricetin (DMY) was employed to reduce the yield of furfural derived from the Amadori rearrangement product of l-threonine and d-xylose (Thr-ARP) by trapping Thr-ARP, 3-deoxyxyosone (3-DX), and furfural to form adducts. The effect of different concentrations of DMY at different pH values and temperatures on the reduction of furfural production was studied, and the results showed that DMY could significantly reduce furfural production at higher pH (pH 5-7) and lower temperature (110 °C). Through the surface electrostatic potential analysis by Gaussian, a significant enhancement of the C6 nucleophilic ability at higher pH (pH ≥ 5) was observed on DMY with hydrogen-dissociated phenol hydroxyl. The nucleophilic ability of DMY led to its trapping of Thr-ARP, 3-DX, and furfural with the generation of the adducts DMY-Thr-ARP, DMY-3-DX, and DMY-furfural. The formation of the DMY-Thr-ARP adduct slowed the degradation of Thr-ARP, caused the decrease of the 3-DX yield, and thereby inhibited the conversion of 3-DX to furfural. Therefore, DMY-Thr-ARP was purified, and the structure was identified by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The results confirmed that C6 or C8 of DMY and carbonyl carbon in Thr-ARP underwent a nucleophilic addition reaction to form the DMY-Thr-ARP adduct. In combination with the analysis results of Gaussian, most of the DMY-Thr-ARP adducts were calculated to be C6-DMY-Thr-ARP. Furthermore, the formation of DMY-furfural caused furfural consumption. The formation of the adducts also shunted the pathway of both Thr-ARP and 3-DX conversion to furfural, resulting in a decrease in the level of furfural production.

Non-invasive image-guided precise photothermal/photodynamic therapy (PTT/PDT) has been proven to be an effective local treatment modality but incompetent against metastases. Hence, the combination of local PTT/PDT and systemic immunotherapy would be a promising strategy for tumor eradication. Herein, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-visualized PTT/PDT agent (SIDP NMs) was constructed, and the efficacy of its multimodal combination with a programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) inhibitor in the treatment of melanoma and metastases was studied. Due to the hydrophobic encapsulation of indocyanine green within the micellar core, SIDP NMs exhibited excellent photothermal/photodynamic properties and stability under an 808 nm near-infrared laser. In vitro cell experiments showed that SIDP NMs had a good killing effect. After incubating with B16-F10 cells for 24 h and irradiating with an 808-nm laser for 10 min, cell viability decreased significantly. Magnetic resonance imaging experiments in melanoma-bearing mice have shown that the dynamic distribution of SIDP NMs in tumor tissue could be monitored by T2WI and T2-MAP non-invasively due to the presence of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanocrystal in SIDP NMs. When the 808 nm laser was irradiated at the maximum focusing time point shown by MRI, the temperature of the tumor area rapidly increased from 32°C to 60.7°C in 5 min. In mouse melanoma ablation and distant tumor immunotherapy studies, SIDP NMs provided excellent MRI-guided PTT/PDT results and, when combined with PD-1 inhibitor, have great potential to cure primary tumors and eradicate metastases.

Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric condition, but the etiology of anxiety disorders remains largely unclear. Our previous studies have shown that neuroplastin 65 deficiency (NP65-/-) mice exhibit abnormal social and mental behaviors and decreased expression of tryptophan hydroxylase 2 (TPH2) protein. However, whether a causal relationship between TPH2 reduction and anxiety disorders exists needs to be determined. In present study, we found that replenishment of TPH2 in dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) enhanced 5-HT level in the hippocampus and alleviated anxiety-like behaviors. In addition, injection of AAV-NP65 in DRN significantly increased TPH2 expression in DRN and hippocampus, and reduced anxiety-like behaviors. Acute administration of exogenous 5-HT or HTR3 agonist SR57227A in hippocampus mitigated anxiety-like behaviors in NP65-/- mice. Moreover, replenishment of TPH2 in DRN partly repaired the impairment of long-term potentiation (LTP) maintenance in hippocampus of NP65-/- mice. Finally, we found that loss of NP65 lowered transcription factors Lmx1b expression in postnatal stage and replenishment of NP65 in DRN reversed the decrease in Lmx1b expression of NP65-/- mice. Together, our findings reveal that NP65 deficiency induces anxiety phenotype by downregulating DRN-hippocampus serotonergic-HTR3 transmission. These studies provide a novel and insightful view about NP65 function, suggesting an attractive potential target for treatment of anxiety disorders.

Directional and rapid formation of the Amadori rearrangement product (ARP) from the glutamic acid and xylose was achieved through intermittent microwave heating. The yield of ARP reached 58.09 % by subjecting the system to intermittent microwave heating at a power density of 10 W/g for 14 min. Dehydration rate and microwave effects were found to be key factors to optimize the conditions for directional and rapid preparation of the ARP. Through a comprehensive analysis of the ARP degradation and further browning under both conductive and microwave thermal processing, it was observed that microwave processing significantly accelerated the browning degree of systems, leading to a tenfold reduction in the heating time required for browning. This research presented a promising avenue for the development of novel and expedited methods for the production of ARP and highlighted the potential of ARP in enhancing color quality in fast-cooking applications utilizing microwave.

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Since the global outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on lung cancer has been extensively studied. Despite reports about SARS-CoV-2 infection inducing a significant increase in the number of medical visits for patients with cancer, the virus has also been reported to produce some unknown benefits. The present study reports the case of a patient with lung cancer whose tumor lesion was reduced in size after SARS-CoV-2 infection even though the therapeutic regimen remained unchanged. Although the mechanism involved is not yet understood, this case supports the novel idea of applying SARS-CoV-2 in oncolytic virotherapy.
